Scott W. Allen, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical
psychologist and has been the Senior Staff Psychologist for the Miami-Dade
Police Department (MDPD) for 21 years. He is also a consultant to several
federal agencies, including the FBI, DEA, and Customs, in the areas of
post-trauma intervention and hostage negotiation. Dr. Allen is a graduate
of the University of Notre Dame, and received his doctorate from the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with an internship at the Yale School
of Medicine and the West Haven Veterans Administration Medical Center-West
Haven.
He has many publications in the area of law enforcement, especially pertaining
to suicide, post-trauma intervention, and various aspects of crisis/hostage
negotiation. He is the Past President of Division 18-Police and Public
Safety Psychology Section. Dr. Allen is also an adjunct faculty member
of Nova University and Florida International University where he teaches
graduate and undergraduate courses in abnormal psychology, and police
psychology. He also provides clinical supervision for doctoral students
at his department-sponsored practicum site at MDPD. Dr. Allen has been
actively involved in the development and facilitation of the MDPD training
initiative with the Florida Regional Community Policing Institute in Managing
Encounters with the Mentally Ill for all sworn police officers.
