Audience: Disaster emergency medical service ( EMS ) responders, public health planners and health care providers
Goals: To orient participants of the impact of disasters on medical systems and to present critical issues central to response medical operations for weapons of mass destruction (WMD) incidents.
Description: The curriculum poses questions that must be addressed to prepare for catastrophic medical incidents. The focus is on a systems approach to mass disaster medical problems faced by public and private sectors; their integration into the broader spectrum of multi-hazard and –discipline emergency management is also addressed. Emphasis is placed upon applications of the Comprehensive Emergency Management System to disaster medical response planning issues. Participants will learn the importance of the priorities necessary for medical response operations and the difficulties involved in conducting those efforts in a mass-disaster environment.
