CAMPUS AND STUDENT SAFETY IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM The United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida and the Center for Public Safety Innovation at St. Petersburg College are pleased to announce that the Project Safe Neighborhoods Violent Gang and Gun Crime Reduction Program will conduct a one day class on Campus and Student Safety in the New Millennium. There are no fees or costs to attend the training. This tuition-free eight-hour course is designed to provide real-time comprehensive training for first responders, educators, and individuals responsible for maintaining a safe learning environment at K-12 and university campuses. This course utilizes an "all hazards" approach, focusing not only on school violence issues, gangs, guns and other weapons, but also on day-to-day safety and security threats, including accidents, large events, and potential natural disasters. The course will take an in-depth look at trends and strategies related to emergencies/crises effecting campus security. The instructor will facilitate participatory discussions on the topics of gangs, weapons on campus, active-shooter incidents, social media, new technology, and security/safety strategies that are considered "best practices" in the field of campus safety. The class will review and dissect recent school violence incidents and determine if the appropriate response was utilized based on known response theories in the "New Millennium." Course Objectives:
