Gang Prosecution Techniques Overview

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida and the Center for Public Safety Innovation at St. Petersburg College are pleased to announce that the Project Safe Neighborhoods Violent Gang and Gun Crime Reduction Program will conduct a one day class on Gang Prosecution Techniques Overview. There are no fees or costs to attend the training.

This tuition-free eight-hour course presents an overview of investigative techniques and concepts that have been used to successfully dismantle criminal organizations previously considered unstoppable by traditional law enforcement techniques. Emphasis is placed upon charging all criminal activities committed by members of the organization in one Racketeer Influence and Corrupt Organization Act (RICO) indictment. In conjunction with this, Continuing Criminal Enterprise (CCE) and Hobbs Act elements are discussed as a means to a RICO indictment.

Course Objectives:

  • Utilize successful investigative techniques for criminal enterprise investigations.
  • State the requirements for completing a RICO, CCE, Conspiracy, or Money Laundering investigation.
  • Understand the basic structure of RICO, CCE, Conspiracy, Money Laundering and Hobbs Act laws.
  • Develop documentation and manage case files for gangs, RICO, CCE, and conspiracy type investigations.
  • Utilize target assessment techniques to identify the gangs responsible for the criminal activities in your jurisdiction.
  • Utilize successful prosecution strategies for dismantling the more complex criminal street gangs.
  • Identify techniques to prevent resurgence of criminal street gang activity in a community.
