Training of Trainer, Policía Comunitaria y Solución de Problema (TOT#3)

El Instituto Regional de la Policía Comunitaria (FLRCPI) en St. Petersburg College continúa ofreciendo adiestramientos sobre policía comunitaria gracias al apoyo del Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) dentro del Departamento de Justicia Federal en los Estados Unidos.

En septiembre 9 a 12, 2014 el Coordinador de Adiestramientos del FLRCPI Leo Cordero y el Dr. Ernesto Fernández del Puerto Rico Training Initiative junto con el instructor del FLRCPI Carlos Rosario presentaron el tercer adiestramiento de un total de tres titulado: "Introducción a la Vigilancia Comunitaria - Formación de Instructores (TOT #3) con la participación de 28 agentes de la Policía de Puerto Rico asignados a la División de Relaciones con la Comunidad.

Las dos primeras sesiones fueron evaluadas como Excelentes por todos los participantes que también reconocieron la importancia de este tipo de adiestramientos. La Formación de Instructores # 3 también fue excepcionalmente recibida por los policías asignados a la División de Relaciones con la Comunidad, los cuales expresaron que este tipo de adiestramientos contribuirán al desarrollo de sus destrezas y habilidades para continuar brindando un servicio de excelencia y colaborar con sus comunidades.

Un análisis realizado entre la pre-prueba (antes de comenzar el adiestramiento) y la post-prueba (luego de completado el adiestramiento) que cada policía participante se exponía durante de los tres adiestramientos, arrojaron resultados muy positivos. El promedio de todas las pruebas preliminares, mostró un promedio de 60% durante las pre-pruebas. Mientras que las post-pruebas demostraron un aumento significativo en el aprendizaje con un impresionante y excelente promedio de 92%. Estos resultados son un buen indicativo de que nuestra entrega profesional para el desarrollo de estos adiestramientos, la ejecutoria de los instructores y el proceso de aprendizaje adoptado por los participantes fue todo un éxito.

Las evaluaciones realizadas luego de concluido el curso indicaron que los policías participantes reconocieron el impacto positivo de este tipo de capacitación y las evaluaciones que realizaron sobre la ejecutoria de los instructores respalda un aumento en el nivel de conocimiento que tienen ahora los participantes sobre los fundamentos de la policía comunitaria y su confianza para aplicar los conocimientos adquiridos en sus áreas de trabajo actual como agentes de ley y orden.

Este proyecto fue financiado gracias al Grant Nº 2012-CK-WX-K020 otorgado a St. Petersburg College por el Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), US Department of Justice (USDOJ).

St. Petersburg College’s Florida Regional Community Policing Institute continues to deliver community policing training in Puerto Rico with funding received from the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) within the Department of Justice.

On September 9th – 12th , 2014 FLRCPI Training Coordinator Leo Cordero and Dr. Ernesto Fernandez from the Puerto Rico Training Initiative along with RCPI Instructor Carlos Rosario presented the third of three “Introduction to Community Policing - Training of Trainer (TOT # 3) sessions to 28 police officers of the Puerto Rico Police Department currently assigned to the Community Relations Division.

The first two sessions were rated as outstanding by all the participants who also acknowledged the importance of this type of training. Training of Trainer # 3 was also exceptionally received by the Police Officers assigned to the Community Relations Division who advised that this training would most definitely enhance their skills and abilities in servicing and collaborating with their communities.

An analysis of the pre and posttest related to all three Training of Trainer showed very positive outcomes. The average for all pretests, showed a class average of 60%. All posttest showed a class average of 92%. This is a good indication that our delivery of this subject matter and the learning process embraced by the participants was successful.

The course evaluations indicated that the students’ self-reflection as to the impact of the training and their evaluation of the instructors strongly supports an increase in the students’ knowledge of community policing and an increase in their confidence to apply the newly learned knowledge to their current job position.
