Introduction to Community Policing in Central America The first regional Introduction to Community Policing Course, which was designed for Central America by the Regional Community Policing Institute of St. Petersburg College, was held December 14-18, 2009 in San Salvador. It was attended by NAS/INL vetted officers from Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Panama. Included in the curriculum was a field trip to the Lourdes, Colon Model Precinct community after which the students were challenged to create a CP operational plan to address the crime and violence endemic of the neighborhood. This course was developed in collaboration with INL after the instructors conducted an on-sight assessment of the CP challenges identified in San Salvador. It is a work in progress and will be adjusted in the future based on the student evaluations/critiques.
